I'd be interested to know if this actually works - almost makes me wish I had a dead pixel to try it out on :)

It does seem like deep magic, but it does work. I believe the technical term is in fact "massaging/exercising the pixel." The catch is, there are several potential causes of a dead pixel: this only fixes one of them.

It's because you subscribed to me and haven't figured out the "Hide" feature of FriendFeed yet. You'll only see people I've "Liked" or "Friended" though, so if you are following me, why wouldn't you want to also see the people I like?

People who don't use the content discovery portion of Friendfeed are really missing out. There is so much interesting stuff being shared and so many interesting people conversing if you expand your horizons a bit. But let's make a deal: you can hide everyone but Robert Scoble, but you can't complain about how all the content on Friendfeed is about Friendfeed and Twitter, okay?

Robert; I've been using the Democratic primary as a good analogue in my head for the Twitter/Friendfeed news overflow in tech: every week, I hope against all hope that this will be the last week and Twitter will figure out what's wrong with itself and we can have service unity, but every week it starts anew. If Obama and Clinton can end their feud, there can be peace in our time for Twitter and Friendfeed.

To that, I think the tech news circle will become much more interesting once the clusterdrama of Twitter's fall from grace is finally resolved.

Chris and Heidi: I seriously doubt that's true. Heck, I wasn't following Heidi until just now. But, seriously, 12,200+ follow me, but I'm only following 2,800. Not to mention I only "Like" or "Comment" on a small percentage off the noise I see flowing through my browser. I try to make those things high-value bits cause I'm very aware that everytime I like something 12,000 people potentially see it and I don't want to waste their time.

Thanks Robert (re awareness). I think you've found the right balance -- at least for me, as I've never hidden anything you've "liked" or "commented." Does raise the need for a potential "third option," however: perhaps "recommend"? That would buy you (and a lot of us) the ability to freely like and/or comment on things.

Has Google commented on the change? I wonder if there was a trademark dispute involving the capital "G."

Because for people to trust the markets everyone must have access to the same knowledge at the same time. Insiders have huge advantages that outsiders don't have and they must not be allowed to profit off of that knowledge in stock markets.

I certainly am in position to lecture you about noise. I know more about noise than anyone in the world. Don't you want to learn about noise and how to prevent being noisy from an expert? And, why so defensive? Interesting that you can ask questions about who is pimping what but you can't take a friendly suggestion to not create new comment clusters here.

Britney: no financial relationship with Qik. They gave me the custom logo because I asked (Kyte.tv did the same thing) and they appreciated me being their #1 user. That that might change in the future, though, as I increase my use of cell phone video to build channels over on fastcompany.tv.

My point is, that it is OK to have a financial interest in something AND promote that thing to improve your own well-being. This altruistic idea of no self-promotion is infuriating. http://is.gd/suQ is a good article on the topic.

Speaking of defensive - it's even more interesting that because I asked a legitimate question that I seriously did not know the answer to, several of Robert's minions feel the need to defend him. Hmmmm...

ScottBourne: loyal fans are something that are absolutely wonderful. Ask Leo Laporte about this. But, seriously, loyalty comes from being transparent about such questions. I don't mind getting them. I think the answers here are due to the more than 1,000 interviews I've given without asking anything in return.

I knew you'd be okay with this question Robert because if you were not, just about everything you've built your reputation on would be suspect. It's the response of your fans that has me thinking now, but perhaps your explanation is right. The fans don't necessarily need to worry about anything other than the "Go team" aspect of such an exchange.

Yup. But it also comes a little bit from the language you used. Since you called it "pimping," which is a more derogatory word than, say, "evangelizing" it looked like you, indeed, were accusing me of doing something untoward. I know that if someone accused someone I knew was beyond reproach (like Leo Laporte, who I saw turn down money to do stuff) that I'd jump in and be vigorous in their defense too.

Well I am sorry for using the word pimping. It wasn't an intentional attempt to imply something derogatory on my part. I use that term often in place of promoting and can't always anticipate how folks will react. Let's save the rest for the in person discussion. I don't want to spoil all the action :)

@Scott Bourne - I use "pimping" quite a bit as well and it does seem to catch a few off-guard; despite my intent of the word being used in a non-derogatory manner. Just trying to keep up with the kids nowadays.
